Learning Disorders

Central Auditory Processing Dysfunctions (CAPD) is a measurable neurological defect located in higher auditory neural pathways. The person has adequate hearing, but an out-of-sync arrival time of the electrical impulses from the two ears (cochlea) through the brainstem to the brain, causing faulty interpretation of heard signals.
Since speed is dependent on time, any delays in one ear over the other can distort sounds and produce an inaccurate or inappropriate response.
Symptoms
Symptoms include high sensitivity to noisy environments, difficulty with following directions (even simple ones), difficulty with reading, spelling, and writing, difficulty with verbal math problems, difficulty with following conversation, and sleep problems.
